Welcome to the Department of Architecture
I would like to express my pride of belonging to the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Lagos. Architecture is taught in only a few universities in Nigeria, hence the need to meet universal standards in mastering the requisite skills of the discipline. Since its foundation, the department has spared no effort in developing a programme that fits the needs of society and keeps pace with developments in the field worldwide. We are confident that we are adopting a learning environment capable of preparing and qualifying graduates who are able to face challenges innovatively and creatively.

About the Department of Architecture
Architectural education at the University of Lagos began in 1970 with the School of Environmental Design, which admitted its first 18 students in the 1971/72 session. Architecture became a distinct teaching department in 1980/81, when the Faculty was restructured into the departments of Architecture, Building Technology, and City & Regional Planning.
The department has a long tradition of international exchange, including programmes with the German foundation DAAD and the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, University of São Paulo. Since 1999/2000 it has run a B.Sc./M.E.D. structure, and its postgraduate programmes include P.G.D.E.D., M.E.D., M.L.A., M.U.D., M.Arch. and M.Phil./Ph.D.
